Two HUGE Plays

Nicky Football made two HUGE plays in yesterday’s 15-10 win over the Falcons.

HUGE PLAY #1

Trailing 3-0, the Eagles get the ball at their own 14 – & I say “Eighty-six” – indicating to my favorite son & favorite grandson that the Eagles are going to drive 86 yards to score a TD to take the lead.

Thirteen plays later, the Eagles have the ball on the Falcons two-yard line – & here comes Nicky’s first HUGE play.

3rd & goal at the Falcons 2 – The Eagles run a trick play where, I think, LaGarrette Blount & Nelson Agholor crisscross in the backfield right in front of Nicky – but they bump into each other exactly when Nicky’s trying to make the handoff – uh-oh – fumble – the ball’s loose – you can see it laying right there on the turf.

Then, like a flash, Nick Foles dives on the ball. He recovers the fumble & carries it into the end zone. It’s called a TD, but soon overturned-on-review because Nicky was down-by-contact.

The ball’s placed on the one.

Without Nicky’s quick reaction, the Flacons recover – which means the Eagles don’t take the lead.

4th & goal at the Falcons 1.

Doug Pederson shows some balls by going for it – & Blount runs it in untouched to take a 6-3 lead.

HUGE PLAY #2

Trailing 10-6, the Eagles get the ball with 0:46 left in the first half.

1st & 10 at the Eagles 28 – Nicky completes a pass to Corrie Clement for 7 yards.

2nd & 3 at the Eagles 35 – False start penalty for minus-5 yards.

Eagles call a time out with 0:22 remaining.

I’m telling my favorite son & favorite grandson that there’s enough time left for at least three plays, but they’re saying “Bullshit. Only enough time for two plays.”

2nd & 8 at the Eagles 30 – Nicky throws a pass which shoulda been intercepted, but the ball’s batted into the air, way up in the air. It lands in Torrey Smith’s hands & he advances it for about 10 yards – for a 20-yard gain and a first down. {1 play}

The Eagles call a time out with 0:22 remaining – & here comes another HUGE play by Nicky Football.

1st & 10 at the 50 – Nicky hits Alshon Jeffrey – & Jeffrey runs out of bounds at the Falcons 35 to stop the clock with 0:05 left. {2 plays}

Without those 15 yards, Nicky’s gotta attempt a Hail Mary. But thanks to those 15 yards, the Eagles are within field-goal range.

1st & 10 at the Falcons 35 – Jake Elliott splits the uprights to cut the deficit to 10-9 & end the first half. {3 plays}

Told them there was enough time for three plays.

NFC Championship

So the Eagles advance to the NFC championship game next Sunday, here in Philly. And the advance weather forecast looks like this: 54 degrees & sunny.

I’ve got the Eagles winning next week, no matter who wins.

Saints or Vikings?

I don’t care. But I’d love to see Nicky get a rematch versus Drew Brees & the Saints – & win this time.
