17 Thrilling Seconds

I enjoyed 17 thrilling seconds last night – thanks to the Sacramento Kings and Philadelphia 76ers.

With time running out in the game, I was hovering just out of the money on FanDuel. The scores among the leaders were so tight, I fluctuated between out-of-the-money and third place several times during the last five minutes of that game.

There were 100 people in the pool. The top 12 would win money; the rest would lose.

As the clock ticked down to 17 seconds, my fate looked bleak.

Then, trailing 108-103, the Sixers Isaiah Canaan launched a 25-foot jumper – and missed. But Jerami Grant – one of my players – grabbed the rebound (+1.2 points) and tried a put-back. The shot missed, but Rajon Rondo fouled Grant.

Grant stepped to the line and made the first free-throw (+1 point), but I cursed out loud when he missed the second.

Omri Casspi – another one of my players – grabbed the rebound (+1.2 points). But – dammit – he turned the ball over with 0:16 left (-1 point).

When the Sixers brought the ball down the court, Casspi fouled Robert Covington.

Covington made the first free throw and missed the second. The Kings Rudy Gay – another one of my players – grabbed the rebound with just 0:06 left (+1.2 points).

The game ended 110-105 Sixers.

But – lo and behold – that 5.6-point flurry by Grant, Casspi, and Rudy Gay during that 17-second period topped me out at 303.5 points and propelled me into third place – a winner.

I was pocketing money.

WILD IDEA

You see, I have this wild idea that I can use my sports acumen to make a living playing fantasy sports at FanDuel.
