Around the League

The Giants beat the Reds 5-2 behind a strong performance by former Phillie Jack Sanford (2-0). Sanford gave up 7 hits and one earned run. Willie McCovey (#1) homered for the Giants.

The win allowed the Giants to pull into a virtual tie for first place with the Phillies.
