1964 June 8

Monday – June 8

1964 imageMonday was an off-day for both the Phillies and Giants. After being swept by the Giants, the Phillies now found themselves in second place ─ 1½ games out of first place.

The next day, the Phillies would begin the most hectic portion of their schedule:

  • 22 games in 19 days.
  • Including six doubleheaders.

By now, Gene Mauch’s starting rotation had evolved into four pitchers:

  1. Jim Bunning
  2. Chris Short
  3. Dennis Bennett
  4. Art Mahaffey

But with the profusion of upcoming doubleheaders, Mauch was going to juggle Ray Culp and Rick Wise into the mix.
