Monday – June 8
Monday was an off-day for both the Phillies and Giants. After being swept by the Giants, the Phillies now found themselves in second place ─ 1½ games out of first place.
The next day, the Phillies would begin the most hectic portion of their schedule:
- 22 games in 19 days.
- Including six doubleheaders.
By now, Gene Mauch’s starting rotation had evolved into four pitchers:
- Jim Bunning
- Chris Short
- Dennis Bennett
- Art Mahaffey
But with the profusion of upcoming doubleheaders, Mauch was going to juggle Ray Culp and Rick Wise into the mix.
