The Phillies had another off-day prior to beginning a two-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. But not the Pirates.

Around the League

The Pirates beat the Cubs 8-5 at Wrigley with Roy Face (2-1) picking up the win in relief.

In the only other game scheduled in the National League, the Reds beat the Colt .45s by a score of 10-5. Jim Maloney (2-0) picked up the win.

The Phillies and Giants remained in a virtual tie for first place.
