Philadelphia Eagles 17 – Green Bay Packers 13

According to the NCAA, Franklin Field is the oldest stadium in the country still operating for football. And it’s also where the Eagles beat the Packers 17-13 to win the 1960 NFL championship.

It’s an even colder 14 degrees this morning. Turn the key in the ignition & a request pops right up.

The pickup is 17 minutes away – I try to avoid pickups longer than 15 minutes – sometimes you’re halfway there and the sonavabitch cancels on you – but not many drivers out right now – and this gives the car 17 minutes to warm up.

Plus I’d like to stay out in Delco this morning – Clifton Boys are getting together later for lunch.

Pickup is in The Hook – that’s Marcus Hook – black male, early 20s – car’s not quite warm yet – Suburban’s got a huge interior to heat – he’s coming all the way back to Norwood Park – almost Delmar Village – just a mile from where I started – and we’re finally all warmed up.

And here’s a request taking me back 13 minutes into Chester – but Lyft changes pickups halfway there – picking up a regular rider – black female, 30s – nurse going to HUP – that’s the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania – 34th and Spruce – in the shadows of the oldest stadium in the country – Franklin Field.

That’s if there were any shadows at 6 a.m.

Franklin Field

Saw lots of Eagles games at Franklin Field, a few Penn games, once saw Bill Cosby run a celebrity relay at the Penn relays – talked my buddies into watching Doug Flutie lead Boston College to 18-15 win over Temple in 1983 – but they were pissed at me.

They wanted to go the Phillies game – so we missed Ozzie Virgil’s walk-off grand slam – 2 outs – bottom of the 9th – to beat the Giants 5-3 – Phils went on to win World Series.

So … now I wanta head back toward Delco – so I loop around to Baltimore Avenue and set Destination: Media.

Long ride to Lansdowne – pick up a black male – celebrating his 30th birthday – got a flight to Miami at 10 – but hasn’t packed yet – and needs cigs – so I’m just driving him less than a mile to the Wawa on Lansdowne Avenue, just north of Baltimore Pike – and then back home.

Wish him a Happy Birthday, of course.

Pick up a young white dude, 20s, in Aldan – going to work in Holmes – drop him at the Wawa on MacDade – getting coffee.

Pick up a young black female, 20s, in Ridley – coming back to trolley stop in Darby.

Decide to quit for now – need gas – gotta buy some first-aid stuff to self-medicate an infection on my hand resulting from a wrestling match with Maggie – CVS is out of peroxide but does have Neosporin. I’ll pick up a couple rides on the way home from lunch with the Clifton Boys – stay tuned.
