Former Phillie Curt Simmons pitched a 2-0 shutout over the Giants to give both teams identical 2-1 records. That put both teams one-half game behind the idle Phillies.

The Rolling Stones released “The Rolling Stones” album, which sold more than 12,000,000 copies in the U.K.

An alternate version – England’s Newest Hit Makers – was released in the U.S. and signaled the beginning of the “British Invasion” in American pop culture.
