In the past, I’ve written Fantasy Lesson #1 about losing fantasy pools because of last-minute scratches. At that time, I lacked the ability to make last-minute changes to my lineup(s) and lost. But not anymore.
I got the FanDuel app for iPhones last week and it came in handy last night – Wednesday, February 3 – by mitigating a potential disaster.
There were four slates last night.
- 7 P.M.
- 8 P.M.
- 9 P.M.
- 10 P.M.
The Bulls were playing the Kings in a late game on the West Coast and that game was included in three slates – the lone exception being the 8 P.M.
To begin with, I had trepidations about playing Jimmy Butler. Ever since his monster game back on January 14 when he accumulated 74 FP against the Sixers, his production has been inconsistent. I attributed the ups and downs to some sort of nagging injury but had no proof. So when I looked at last night’s alternatives at PG, Jimmy Butler looked like the best bet. So I played him three times.
I played 50/50 pools for 100 players. So I just had to finish in the top half – usually #50 and above.
The 7 P.M. slate kicked off with the Hawks-Sixers game. Using my new app, I was able to check for last-minute scratches.
There were none.
I followed the 7 P.M. slate and the 8 P.M. slate as the games were being played. But when I did my last-minute check of the 9 P.M. slate, I got a shock – Jimmy Butler had been scratched. According to today’s article by ESPN’s Nick Friedell, “a surprise late scratch because of knee tendinitis” put Jimmy Butler on the shelf.
- No big deal for Jimmy Butler – he still got paid handsomely for sitting out the game.
- No big deal for the Bulls – they wound up pulling out a 107-102 victory.
- But it was a big deal for me – and for anyone else – who played Jimmy Butler. To begin with, my 7 P.M. slate was now doomed to lose.
But thanks to my newly-acquired FanDuel app, I had time to make changes to the 9 P.M. and 10 P.M. slates . I juggled the lineups and wound up winning both slates – instead of losing them. Thanks to my new app, I mitigated my losses:
- #23 at 9 P.M.
- #25 at 10 P.M.
If you play fantasy sports, get the app. Like the promo says, “Now you can play your favorite fantasy sports anytime, anywhere.”
You owe it to yourself – and it’s free.
