Joe Eszterhas
Joe Eszterhas was one of the hottest screenwriters in Hollywood for almost 20 years – from 1978 – 1995. I was just getting started as a writer back then, so he was on top of my lists of role models and idols.
But he seemingly dropped off the planet in the 21st Century and I forgot all about him until two days ago when I watched Sliver.
Joe accumulated 18 writing credits. Here’s a list of six of his movies I saw.
1 – F.I.S.T. – 1978 – starring Sly Stallone, Rod Steiger, and West Catholic’s Joe Boyle.
2 – Flashdance – 1983 – starring Jennifer Beals.
3 – Basic Instinct – 1992 – starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone.
4 – Nowhere to Run – 1993 – starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Rosanna Arquette.
5 – Sliver – 1993 – starring Sharon Stone and the ill-cast dweeb Billy Baldwin.
6 – Showgirls – 1995 – Elizabeth Berkley, Kyle MacLachlan, and Gina Gershon.
Here’s Joe with Gina Gershon at a social function for Showgirls.
Between you and me, I always liked Gina Gershon but never saw her in that light before ─ pleasantly surprising.
I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.
My first book – Born to Be Wild – was published in 1992 and is still selling on Amazon & Kindle. it’s a true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.
The story took 21 years to play out with many twists & turns. It’s an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
