Josh Gordon Out in Cleveland?

Josh Gordon ImageJosh Gordon has done it again.

The talented wide receiver failed another test and will be suspended from the NFL for one year. In the process, however, he may have terminated his association with the Cleveland Browns.

It was no secret that the wide receiver was already skating on thin ice in Cleveland as a result of some previous shenanigans. This latest transgression by Gordon may have broken the ice and convinced Browns management into dumping him.

Josh Gordon has a knack for finding trouble.

In 2011, Gordon was kicked off the Baylor football team because he failed a test for marijuana. Gordon later told the Houston Chronicle: “I’ve definitely put that part of my life behind me. It was a difficult time, but I learned from it, and I’ve moved on.”

Not really.

In 2012, he had a good rookie season. He caught 50 passes for 805 yards and 5 TDs, but he violated the league’s substance-abuse policy during the off-season and was suspended.

In 2013, he missed for the first two games of the season as punishment for that suspension. Despite missing those two games, Gordon caught 87 passes in 2013 for 9 TDs and a league-leading 1,627 yards.

But there was more trouble in the off-season.

On July 5, 2014, Gordon was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and speeding in Raleigh, North Carolina. The NFL suspended Gordon for the 2014 season, but a new drug policy cut the punishment down to just missing the first ten games.

After Gordon was reinstated, he played in five games, but he didn’t play well. He caught 24 passes for 303 yards and no TDs – and he missed the Browns final game of the season. The Browns suspended him because he missed a meeting and showed up late for practice after attending a late-hours party hosted by another Browns misfit – Johnny Manziel.

Pro Football Talk reported that Gordon tested positive for alcohol this time.

The Browns issued a statement: “Clearly we are very disappointed to hear the latest report regarding Josh. At this point, due to the confidential nature of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, we have not been made aware by the league of a failed test. We are in the process of gathering more information and will provide further comment at the appropriate time.”

Gordon’s agent is Drew Rosenhaus, but Rosenhaus has not yet been reached for comment.
