My Detective Stories Library is now a reality.
Detective magazines gained popularity in the 1940s. Selling more than 2 million copies every month.
No TV back then. No paperbacks.
Crime, especially true crime, has been the most popular genre since Gutenberg invented the printing press.
But magazines declined in popularity in the 1960s. Outcompeted by TV shows and the publication of cheap paperbacks. But the detective mags survived until 1995.
Between 1991 and 1995, more than 100 of my true murder stories appeared in detective magazines.
I decided to rewrite those stories – to avoid copyright infringement – and offer them for the amazingly low price of $2.99 per story. Plus, I’ll be offering reduced-price “deals” on a regular basis.
To lure you to my Detective Stories library, I’m giving away two stories. One from my Murders in the Caribbean series and one from my Serial Killers series:
“Voodoo Slaughter” appeared in this issue of Official Detective magazine as “Horror in Paradise: Virgin Islands Voodoo Slaughter.”
The double murder took place on Vessup Bay Beach on the island of St. Thomas.
“House of Horrors” appeared in this issue of True Detective magazine as “Gary Heidnik’s House of Horrors … His sex slaves were shackled nude & fed dog food.”
The story is about serial killer Gary Heidnik – the prototype for the Buffalo Bill character in the best-seller and blockbuster movie Silence of the Lambs.
