April 9
Ignored my first Fantasy Baseball note about checking the weather.
Bad news because it was raining in Detroit and my lineup for the Twins-Tigers game contained four Tigers – Pitchers Shane Greene and Hitters Anthony Gose, Ian Kinsler, and Alex Avila. If the game were postponed, there was no way I could win.
With postponement a distinct possibility, I was chastising myself for not paying attention to my notes as I started checking social sites all over the place trying to get updates for the weather in the Motor City. One “well-wisher” on ESPN – a Dennis Ray for Baltimore – posted the following comment:
One person posted that the game had already been postponed. Fortuantely, he was wrong.
The rain delay lasted almost four hours – and that was the good news because the game eventually got going and my four Tigers played well:
• Shane Greene didn’t allow an earned run in eight strong innings, striking out five, and picking up the win to score 17.0 points.
• Leadoff hitter Anthony Gose went 3-for-5 with a double, a pair of singles, scored three runs, and stole a base for 8.5 points.
• Ian Kinsler went 0-for-3 but walked twice and scored two runs for 3.25 points.
• Alex Avila went 1-for-4 with a run-scoring single for 1.25 points.
In fact, everyone in my lineup scored and my team racked up 43.0 points. I picked up a win by finishing fourth in a 50/50 contest with fifty players.
I commented to Dennis Ray and thanked him for the good vibes – and then I added another note to double-check my notes before picking my players.
