This Is War

After losing my first two Fantasy Baseball contests at FanDuel on Monday, I’m making the following declaration – This Is War.

It’s now official. This is no longer just fun and games. This is business – serious business. I plan to make money playing Fantasy Baseball at FanDuel, but yesterday – in my first two contests – I lost money.

In my first contest, after being in fourth place after the Cards beat the Cubs 3-0 on Sunday night, I was in fourth place with 16 points. In that 50/50 contest with 50 players, I needed to finish in the top 25 to collect. I thought I was a winner.

I picked Adam Wainwright as my pitcher. He pitched six innings, struck out six, and didn’t allow an earned run as he accumulates 16 points. But on Monday, while four of my hitters were scoring points, the other four came up with negative integers:

Matt Holliday +6.5

Russell Martin +4.25

Adam Lind +2.75

Asdrubal Cabrera +2.25

Cody Asche -0.75

Odubel Herrera -1.0

Jorge Solera -1.0

Jacoby Ellsbury -1.0

I wound up finishing 28th – missing out on the money by three positions – by a stinking 1.25 points.

Monday’s result was similar.

In a 50/50 contest for 100 players, I needed to finish in the top 50 to collect.

But I finished in 56th place – missing out on the money by six positions – by three points. But this time, it was a combination of both my pitcher and my hitters. I picked Clayton Kershaw, but he got a no-decision, and I had picked three hitters who finished in the red.

So for Tuesday night’s games it was back to the drawing board. I learned a couple of things so far – which I’ll try to implement tonight.

I’ll let you know how it works.
