Money Where Mouth Is
The sentiment’s been strong about the necessity of removing Ruben Amaro Jr. as the general manager of the Phillies for at least the last two years – more than four years in my house.
But Ruben Amaro is still the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Let’s take a quick look at the Phillies’ record since Ruben assumed command of the ship. The record looks like this:
- 2009 = 93-69
- 2010 = 97-65
- 2011 = 102-60
- 2012 = 81-81
- 2013 = 73-89
- 2014 = 73-89
- 2015 = 34-63 thru first 97 games
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the ship has been sinking for the last four seasons. It’s way past time to make someone walk the plank – that someone being Ruben Amaro, Jr.
I hear the sentiment expressed every day on WIP – not only by angry callers, but also by savvy hosts at the radio station.
Yet WIP continues to have Ruben Amaro, Jr. appear as a regular guest with both Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Show and also on Leading Off.
- Why?
- Why is he still on your station?
- Why don’t you set an example?
Show the Phillies how to do it.
Grow some stones.
Put your money where your mouth is and purge Ruben Amaro Jr. from your station – not even sound bites. Make a preemptive strike.
Maybe the Phillies would get the hint and make the headline for this piece come true.
If WIP fires Amaro, perhaps the Phillies will fire Amaro.
If I’m running WIP, Ruben Amaro Jr. doesn’t get on my station until the day he gives his farewell address. And if I’m running the Phillies, someone else has been my general manager for nigh onto four years by now and the Phillies are World Series contenders once again this year.
