You’re a Cantaloupe
True Romance is a 1993 movie starring Christian Slater, Patti Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Chris Walken, & Sam Jackson.
The movie starts off in Detroit and then moves to L.A. It’s about a lonely pop culture geek who marries a call girl, steals cocaine from her pimp, and tries to sell it in Hollywood. Meanwhile, the owners of the cocaine track them down in an attempt to reclaim it.
I love the movie, but haven’t watched it for a few years. But last Thursday night I went to Old Man’s Night at the Italian Club in Clifton Heights and my buddy Gary Gerber and I started reminiscing. One of our schoolmates had the most magnificent ass we’d ever seen to this day. She was Italian, from Sicily, and many years later we put two and two together when we saw True Romance.
I watched the movie three or four times before I realized that Brad Pitt played the stoner. James Gandolfini, aka Tony Soprano, plays a hitman ─ a minor but important role ─ as he was just getting started in movies.
Quentin Tarantino wrote the story but sold it to raise the money so he could direct Pulp Fiction.
I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.
My first book – Born to Be Wild – was published in 1992 and is still selling on Amazon & Kindle. it’s a true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.
The story took 21 years to play out with many twists & turns. It’s an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
