Trade Nick Foles – Now

Please trade Nick Foles – and do it now.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Nick Foles. I think he’s the real deal – the quarterback of the present and the quarterback of the future – Nicky Football – the Franchise. I can see him leading teams to the Super Bowl. Problem is: I’m afraid he’s going to be leading another team to the Super Bowl instead of the Eagles.

But I’m so sick and tired of hearing so many people gainsaying Foles. I believe that the same people who want Foles to be gone are the same ones who wanted Michael Vick to start over Foles in 2013; the same ones who wanted the Eagles to draft Geno Smith in 2013; the same ones who wanted the Eagles to draft Johnny Manziel last year; and the same ones who want the Eagles to draft Marcus Mariota this year – or, get this, to draft Brett Hundley – who, the way I see it, will never be a starter in the NFL.

Yeah, draft Brett Hundley.

Get rid of Nick Foles – and do it now.

I can see him stepping in for Sam Bradford in St. Louis and taking the Rams to the Playoffs next season; ditto for Zach Mettenberger in Tennessee and taking the Titans to the Playoffs; ditto for Ryan Fitzpatrick or Case Keenum in Houston and taking the Texans to the Playoffs; and ditto for Carson Palmer or whoever’s playing quarterback in Arizona and taking the Cardinals to the Playoffs.

For Nick Foles, being traded to Houston or Arizona would be like going home – where he would at last be appreciated.

Oh, the trade rumors are out there. And once the Super Bowl’s over this Sunday, the rumors will intensify – all the way up to draft day on the Fourth of July – or whenever the hell the NFL’s moved the draft back to.

By the way, I end a lot of my written sentences with prepositions because they sound better that way. That’s the way I talk.

But if Nick Foles still finds himself on the Eagles for the 2015 season – please Chip Kelly, dump the run-option. Prove you’re a genius in the mold of a Don Shula – a coach who adapted his offense to the talent he had on the team – and not the other way around. The run-option is not suited for Foles or Shaky McCoy – but, then again, it’s possible that neither Foles nor McCoy will be with the Eagles in 2015.
