How does a 70-year-old black man from Philly get the first name Ricardo? Simple: His mother musta been a fan of I Love Lucy.

I Love Lucy

Monday – Part 1

16 degrees when I start at 5 o’clock this morning – but doesn’t feel that cold.

Get 3 regulars right off the bat

(1) – Black female in Delmar Village, store manager, opening up the Aldi on MacDade in Collingdale.

(2) – Charlie in Briarcliffe. You should remember him. The breakfast cook at Jimmy’s on Chester Pike in Sharon Hill – tells me to stop in for coffee later – but not gonna have time today.

(3) – Black female in the apartment complex next to SEPTA station in Secane – opening up the daycare at Rockbourne Mills in Clifton – right next to Walt’s Steaks – and for you Milltowners out there – there’s tghe name of another mill in town.

And the rides keep coming hot and heavy – black female in Lansdowne – going to 69th Street Terminal.

Don’t hafta move to pick up a black dude going from the terminal to Germantown.

Mixed buncha riders come next – black, white, Hispanic – going to LaSalle, Temple Hospital, and Chestnut Hill.

Pick up my 70-year-old black man named Ricardo – survived a triple-bypass in September – although he flat-lined once – going to his next-to-last rehab at Lankenau Hospital.

Let’s see – 70-years old, heart patient, sports fan, conservative – we got a lot to talk about.

Finally ask him how he got named Ricardo – says ya gotta ask my mother – to which, I say she musta been a fan of I Love Lucy – tells me that’s what he heard – named after Rickie Ricardo.

Nailed it.

Take a black female, teenager, to school at 56th and Chester – and finish with a young black couple going to Enterprise on Essington Avenue – need a rental because they were one of 7 cars to hit a pothole yesterday on the Expressway and lose a wheel.

It’s 10 o’clock – Lyft’s offering a bonus between 11 and noon – plus I’ve got a curbside pickup scheduled at Giant between noon and 1:00.

So – let’s take a break to feed the cats – drink a cup of coffee – then go back out at 11.
